Living Inside a Volcano

Living Inside a Volcano

Aoga-shima is a stratovolcano forming a beautiful small 2.5 x 3.5 km island with steep cliffs in the Izu island chain, 300 km south of Tokyo.
Aogashima’s main attraction is its geologic anomaly, the double volcano. The island itself is one volcano, and another smaller volcano sits inside the caldera of it. Over 200 people live there. And yeah, it is an active volcano.

The main volcano also has steam vents around one side of it. The steam is scalding hot, and is used to power the public sauna, which is the perfect way to relax after a long day of hiking the island.
The wharf at the island’s only port, Sanbō, can handle small ships of up to 500 tons, and is unusable during time of high waves and inclement weather.

Where two rivers meet

Where two rivers meet

The confluence of the rivers Czâlin (clean water) and Yangtze River (brown waters) in Chongqing, China.

In geography, a confluence is the meeting of two or more bodies of water. It refers either to the point where a tributary joins a larger river, called the main stem, or where two streams meet to become the source of a river of a new name. The confluences in the photos below create dramatic visual contrasts.

Google the term 'Zerg Rush' you will be in for a big surprise.

If you Google the term 'Zerg Rush' you will be in for a big surprise.

As soon as you do, the coloured letters 'O' turn into aliens that devour the page - and you can click on the little 'aliens' to kill them.

Even by Google's standards, though, this joke is particularly geeky.

The 'Zerg' are one of the races in a strategy game, Starcraft - and experienced players often rely on the 'Zerg rush' to win games.

The verb 'to Zerg' is now often used in other online games, meaning to overwhelm an enemy through sheer force of numbers.

The game Starcraft was released in 1998, but is still played today.

Maker Blizzard entertainment says, 'In the distant future, the newly formed Terran Dominion faces the arrival of two hostile alien races: the savage Zerg and the enigmatic Protoss. Gather resources and expand your forces to lead them to victory. The only allies are enemies. The only choice is war.'

You have to search from the Google home page to make the 'trick' work, and it may not work in mobile browsers or some desktop browsers.

Once the game is over, the letters form the message 'GG' - meaning 'Good Game', a sign-off often used by players of Starcraft and other online games

Google Drive: How using it can be 'dangerous'

WASHINGTON: Search giant Google's new consumer service that allows users to store photos, videos, and other digital files in the Internet 'cloud', could allow third party agencies to access your data, without your knowledge and without the need for a warrant, an expert has claimed

David Asprey, the inventor of one of the first cloud computing services TrendMicro cloud evangelist, said that the terms of use of Google Drive "destroys any expectation of privacy because you license your data to a third party".

You give Google full right to do whatever they want to do with your data.

"By signing up to Google Drive, users give the tech giant a global license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify or create derivative works and to publish, publicly perform and distribute that content," he added.

Meanwhile, Google said they comply with US laws and legal processes 'just like any law-abiding company'.

"We have a track record of advocating on behalf of user privacy " Google said in a statement.

"We look at each request to be sure they adhere to both the letter and the spirit of the law before complying. We do our best to notify the subject named in any such requests in order to give them the opportunity to object," it added.

View Twitter and Facebook in Star Wars style with Kinect Star Wars

This is the social networking app you've been looking for...

Download the Kinect Star Wars mobile app and view your Facebook and Twitter feeds in the style of the iconic Star Wars opening title sequence!

Microsoft has launched the Kinect Star Wars app for smartphones. The app is a social networking app with a difference, it lets you view your Facebook and Twitter feeds in the famous style of the ‘opening Crawl’ at the start of Star Wars movies. The Kinect Star Wars apps will let you sync with your Facebook and Twitter accounts to allow you to view both inside one app, even in one stream if you wish. Your Facebook stream, Twitter stream, mentions and even direct messages are viewable within the app.

The app is great for people who love Star Wars and also like to catch up with friends on social networking websites, and to be honest, how can anyone not love Star Wars?

“We are literally putting the Force directly into people’s phones to help launch Kinect Star Wars” says Stephen McGill, Microsoft UK director of Xbox and entertainment.

The app is available right now and is free on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

The app is to celebrate the launch of the game for Xbox 360, which is by LucasArts and Terminal Reality and published by Microsoft Studios. The game uses the Kinect motion peripheral so users can use the force; wield a lightsabre and control podracers and starfighters. You can even use your voice to make various commands. The game takes place during the prequel trilogy, which starts just after Episode 1 and concludes during the events of Episode 3.

You can find more information over on Facebook. Please let us know what you think of the app and game in the comments
